Mr Schatten has nearly 25 years of traditional and alternative asset management experience trading and risk managing directional, volatility and arbitrage trading strategies across every major asset class, geography and liquidity and risk profile.

 

From 2013 to 2018 Mr Schatten has been managing his own family office investment portfolio including trading liquid markets in strategies that mirror the Lynncroft investment process he developed at Black River Asset Management.

 

From 2004 to 2012 Mr Schatten was a Senior Managing Director and the Senior Portfolio Manager for Black River Asset Management's (an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Cargill Corporation) Convertible Bond and Derivative Fund, and from 2009-2012 the SPM for BRAM's Dynamic Strategies Fund (a direct investment vehicle for Cargill Corporation proprietary capital).  During his tenure at BRAM he also managed risk-capital allocations for the Firm’s Commodity Multi-Strategy Fund and conducted hedging programs for the Firm's Credit and Emerging Market Funds (Aggregate AUM of $1BLN+).

 

Prior to Black River, in London, Mr Schatten was the SPM of Gartmore Investment Management’s (now part of Janus/Henderson Global Advisors) AlphaGen White Oak Fund, a global derivatives arbitrage trading fund (2002-2004).   He also worked as Head of European Convertible Bond and Credit trading for Deephaven Capital Management (2000-2002).

 

Previously, in New York, Mr Schatten was Head of Global, Ex-US Convertible Bond and Volatility trading for New York hedge funds Hamilton Partners and Palladin Partners (1994-2000).   He also performed external manager due diligence and derivative structuring functions for a number of the Firm’s ultra-high net worth clients.

 

Mr Schatten holds a BA in History from the University of Rochester and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business.
